The increased pricing is sad because I often get asked if people can buy a copy of my books, but it's too expensive to offer. Some younger family members have also started to use printed photobooks because they noticed that otherwise their massive amount of smartphone images never gets sorted out to surface again #Bookwright vs booksmart pdfMy books with old family images are very popular and family members view them time and time again I have those in PDF form too but most people prefer the printed versions. This is interesting enough for friends and family to look through while they would never look at a few hundred online images. It's also safe just in case you cannot find/access your digital data I make one book every year with my latest dragonfly images, usually around one specific theme. There is a company in Germany that gets very high marks for printing quality (way above Blurb I'm told) but they are too expensive for now for books with many pages. ![]() #Bookwright vs booksmart upgradeI really should use InDesign instead but I haven't used it for years and I can no longer upgrade my copy and would have to buy new just for this task ( Because of this I'm looking around a bit for other book printing options. ![]() So this year I need to start all over again with BookWright. I tried migrating my previous Booksmart design to BookWright (a lot of customization over the years which I would like to keep) but that didn't work. But clearly Booksmart is being phased out, I ran into some serious problems the last time so it is probably time to move. #Bookwright vs booksmart softwareI still use the old Booksmart software because I'm familiar with it and it offers more control than the new BookWright. Viewers at my age usually see only subjects and they still respects books. It is easier to show a book, even if real photos look much better. The books I have from the day are like you describe and I believe they were shipped from the Netherlands. Some other photo book companies have printing quality that has a more photographic look and probably twice the effective resolution (but at higher cost. Printing quality for the photo books is still "magazine quality" and far removed from "photo quality" with some visible raster / noise. There were improvements in binding in the early years, and more improvement in paper options etc. They were very innovative when they started but that stopped quickly. I'm also a bit disappointed that Blurb didn't improve print quality over the years. And it's convenient that all my books from those ten years are very similar in the bookcase While many other suppliers offer (slightly) better print quality nowadays, I'm still using Blurb because they are one of the few who offer books with many pages (like > 100p) with good quality binding most other suppliers are even more expensive if you use more than a few dozen pages. #Bookwright vs booksmart freeAnd the shipping cost is ridiculous if you ask me (in US they frequently have free shipping, but in Europe it's at least $15 or so for one book). With current prices (even when using the frequent discounts) most books are too expensive for resale, except for some "niche" applications unless you use few pages or the "trade book" format but for me (and probably most photographers) those aren't attractive options. ![]() When they started the prices were so good that you could sell the books at a profit and still have a decent price for the buyer this offered some business opportunities. I haven't needed "service" in recent years but my impression from online service forums isn't great.Īlso Blurb prices have gone way up compared to the early years which is sad. Production and shipping is reliable and often faster than indicated by the website. Some other EU countries are (or were?) supplied from Spain or other printers. I'm in Netherlands and books are printed near Eindhoven in Netherlands, which seems to have a good reputation. Quality seems relatively stable over the years but it may depend on your location. ![]() I have been using them for about ten years now and make a book with my latest pictures at least once every year. I’m wondering what is the service to use today? I’m here Europe. I used blurb years ago and now am planing to make new books. ![]()
